LA Tower

Recipient of AIA 2x8 Citation Award

Year: Fall 2017, Southern California Institute of Architecture, Instructor: Maxi Spina Location: Downtown, Los Angeles CA Type: Tower

Located in Downtown, Los Angeles at the corner of the 110 freeway and 7th street, this office tower is a new monument of power for DTLA’s recently reinvigorated business center. With Mies’s Seagram Building as the project’s point of departure, this tower adapts its iconic grid through flirtatious folds and overlaps, which produce various levels of opacity to accommodate different lighting conditions that the variety of programs require (office, hotel, and retail). Driving past this building we look up from our car windows as we look up to LA’s maze of movie billboards, palm trees, and San Gabriel Mountains.
